Welcome to the ZIHRM LABOUR LAWS PAGE. The Institute in its quest to inform and remind its readership and membership about the importance of laws in labour relations brings you refreshing cases on labour matters in Zambia. Kindly take time and read the cases, and share your views with your peers, employees and schoolmates (college or University).

Discrimination at places of work for instance can be a thorny issue. It varies from employees perceiving that their colleagues are receiving favours in terms of promotion, training, awards, and general token of appreciation for hard work including "a pat on the back", to decisions bordering on dismissal. Some employees cannot just stomach seeing their workmates enjoying conditions awarded to their colleagues based on perceived underhand methods that may be seen to reducing some important offices to "near bedrooms", and the belief that "corporate incest" at work places is a living phenomenon. In any case, suppose all these ideas were mere imaginary speculations, and there would hardly be proof to make them stand real! It is important to reflect on how courts using labour laws in Zambia have adjudicated on some of the issues covered above.

There are also instances when REDUNDANCIES and RETRENCHMENTS are regarded as inevitable solutions when the going gets tough. Well the bottom line is that each step needs to be guided by prudent application of workplace policies and laws governing labour relations.
